UK 4th Global Entrepreneur Rankings

The UK is now recognized as the most entrepreneurial country in Europe and comes fourth overall in the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Index. Britain ranks above Germany and France, and comes fourth globally in the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI), which profiles entrepreneurial activity and systems around the world

This year’s ranking is the UK’s highest position in the history of the index – now in its fifth edition – and has been improving steadily over the past three years. In 2012 the UK ranked 14th and in 2013 it ranked ninth. The UK has now overtaken France to become the worlds 5th biggest economy

There are an estimated 5.2 million businesses in the UK which employed 25.2 million people, and had a combined turnover of more than £3,500 billion

Small firms accounted for 99.3 per cent of all private sector businesses in the UK, 47.8 per cent of private sector employment and 33.2 per cent of private sector turnover

Small and medium sized businesses employed 15.2 million people.

Of all businesses, 62 per cent (3.3 million) were sole proprietorships, 29 per cent (1.5 million) were companies and nine per cent (460,000) partnerships

More Than 750,000 new businesses have been started in the last 18 months in the UK
