NOVEMBER
- DATE TBC – AUTUMN BUDGET/COMPREHENSIVE SPENDING REVIEW – may include FUTURE TAX RISES (eg NICS), DECREASES (eg BUSINESS RATES), changes like MAKING TAX DIGITAL for CORP TAX, GOVT EXPENDITURE to 2024 (eg Levelling up/infrastructure/skills), 2021 NATIONAL LIVING WAGE rate
DECEMBER
- 31st December – UK/EU Transition Period to end, including end of Freedom of Movement
- End of 2020 – aim for UK/Australia/New Zealand Trade Agreement to be finalised
2021
JANUARY
- 1st January – New UK Visa system starts – Relevant visa needed for EU and non-EU international citizens wishing to come to work in the UK
- 21st January – VAT returns to 20% across UK for catering, holiday accommodation and admission to shows/attractions
- 31st January – July 2020 Self-assessment deferrals now due across UK (unless Time To Pay agreed)
- 31st January – Employer apprenticeship cash incentive in England to end
FEBRUARY
- 1st February – UK Small employers to apply for £1,000 job retention bonus for those previously furloughed still in employment
MARCH
- DATE TBC – SPRING STATEMENT 2021
- 1st March – Reverse VAT to come in, for UK construction industry
- 31st March – Q2 2020 VAT deferrals to be paid across UK (unless Time To Pay agreed)
- 31st March – Stamp duty reduction to expire in England and Northern Ireland (0% up to £500k)
APRIL
- 1st April – New annual business rates bills to land in England (retail, hospitality and leisure biz’s had 1 year 100% relief for COVID, in 2020-21)
- 1st April – Business Rates revaluation property date, with values captured for April 2023 revaluation
- 1st April – new National Living Wage rate to kick-in across UK
- 6th April – Employer NICS relief for veterans comes in (an FSB win in the Cons manifesto in Dec 2019)
- 6th April – IR35 private sector roll-out across UK
- 6th April – Making Tax Digital extended – for VAT to those
- 6th April – New Financial/Tax Year, potential for new tax rises announced Autumn 2020, to come in
MAY
- 6th May – ELECTIONS
- Scottish Parliament, Welsh Parliament/Senedd (NI TBC)
- England local elections, 13 directly elected Mayors, 40 Police and Crime Commissioners (England and Wales), London Mayor/Assembly (postponed from May 2020)
JUNE
- June – First Bounce Back loans repayments due (month 13), across UK – recapitalisation
- 30th June – Deadline to apply for Settled Status for EU citizens living in the UK (anyone who misses the cut-off will be unlawfully resident)
JULY
- 1 July 2021 – UK/US trade deal deadline
LATER
- 1-12 November – COP26 UN climate conference hosted by UK – Glasgow
- December – Kickstart Scheme to close across Great Britain
- April 2022 – Making Tax Digital for VAT extended to all those VAT-registered (including under the threshold – 30% are already registered voluntarily)
- April 2023 – Making Tax Digital extended to Income Tax self assessment for unincorporated businesses and landlords if annual gross income from business or property is £10,000 or more
- 2nd May 2024 – Next UK General Election
