StoveHub

Wood Fired Cooking Challenge at the Kent County Show

Wood burning stove company, The Stove Hub, are looking for Kent cooks to showcase their skills on their wood fuelled cooker-top stove at this year’s Kent County Show. Owner, Jo Alsop, is arranging the event “we want Kent cooking talent to show us some natural, stripped down cooking on a simple but beautiful wood fired cooker stove”. Visitors to the stand, on the 8th, 9th and 10th July, will be treated to cooking demos, woody smells and delicious food straight from the hot plate. The line up includes culinary potato wizard Hilary Steel and exquisite Indian restaurateurs Sukoo Sukoo. Amateur cooks can also have a turn.

Leading stove manufacturer, Charnwood, have pioneered the design, incorporating a soapstone hot plate over a conventional burn chamber. Dave Knight of Charnwood explains “the soapstone is similar to an Aga hotplate, which means it is great for stewing and slow cooking. Unlike an Aga, cooks can experience the delights of frying and barbequing straight onto the soapstone; its non-stick qualities make it perfect for back to basics cooking”.

Any Kent cooks, chefs, restaurateurs, or local food producers interested in promoting their talents or their produce should contact Jo on 01634 826143 or visit the website for more details www.thestovehub.co.uk. The Stove Hub will be located on stand 283 close to the main entrance. Slots are still available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Amateur cooks are invited to submit photo ideas for soapstone cooked dishes to The Stove Hub’s facebook and twitter pages (facebook.co.uk/thestovehub and @thestovehub). The winner will be given a slot on a day of their choice.
