ICANN sets new verification rules from the beginning of 2014

ICANN, the internet’s governing body, introduced new rules for anyone owning or registering a top level domain (gTLDs). This effects domain names ending with .com, .net, .org, .biz and .name.

Domain owners will now be required to verify their details when:

  • Registering a new domain name
  • Transferring an existing domain
  • Changing the registrant or
  • Changing the email address on your contact information.

Domain names with invalid contact details will be suspended until the details have been updated and verified.

Verification will be via an email with an activation link.  This process needs to be completed within 15 days otherwise the registrar will suspend the domain name.
