HAIRSPRAY

“IF LIFE WERE EVERYTHING IT SHOULD BE, IT WOULD BE MORE LIKE ‘HAIRSPRAY.”

HAIRSPRAY THE MUSICAL AT THE HAZLITT THEATRE MAIDSTONE
GDS Productions will bring the Tony award-winning Broadway musical, Hairspray to life 7th-11th October.

Hairspray tells the story of overweight Baltimore girl, Tracy Turnblad. She’s never been part of the “in” crowd until winning a coveted spot on the local TV dance program, “The Corny Collins Show” where overnight, she becomes a teen idol. Tracy quickly becomes a trend setter and uses her popularity to help change the show’s segregation policy. From the 1960s style dance music to the soulful rhythm and blues, Hairspray is sure to get audience members dancing in the aisles. Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. With arguably one of the most upbeat and catchy scores of all time, HAIRSPRAY includes tunes such as “Good Morning Baltimore,” “You Can’t Stop The Beat,” “Mama, I’m A Big Girl Now,” “It Takes Two,” “Welcome to the 60’s,” “I Can Hear The Bells” and more.

Hairspray is based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, who served as a creative consultant on the musical comedy. It features a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Hairspray features an original score by Academy Award-nominated Marc Shaiman (who co-wrote the music and lyrics for the acclaimed animated musical, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Tracy will be played by Laura Dee see her BIO here.
