“Air Traffic Control and Leading a Business – Similar?”  A mini-series of blogs by Chris Hyde

The business world is a complex place as is the world of Air Traffic Control!  I probably don’t need to tell you that…  it is a pretty obvious statement.

What may be surprising is that many of the core skills that an Air Traffic Controller uses on a daily basis may be transferable to business and if the business leader uses those skills effectively there may be gains in quality, productivity and efficiency throughout an organisation.

In my mini-series of blogs – “Air Traffic Control and Leading a Business – Similar?”  I examine some of the core skills of the Air Traffic Controller and explain how they may be translated into the modern business environment.

By taking each of the core skills such as “scan”, “division of attention”, “workrate”, “priorities” and “planning” I will build a series of blogs that will give insight into how the Air Traffic Controller works to provide a safe and expeditious service to aircraft and more importantly how you as the business leader may apply these skills to your own business.

Whether you are the CEO, middle-manager, team-leader or starting out on your own  entrepreneurial journey, there is something here for everyone.  I believe that by raising an awareness of the core skills of the Air Traffic Controller, I will be able to stimulate organisations and their leaders to think differently about the skills that they employ on a daily basis.
