The Tenterden Light Trail.
We are planning a new 4-day light installation trail designed to offer our local community & visitors a safe interactive experience to come together at events in 2022. Located at key sites along Tenterden high street, the trail is designed to create a fun experience, encouraging all who visit to walk the full length of the High Street – so showcasing our great independent businesses.
But it’s more than just a light trail…. This project is designed to get the whole community involved, by creating a series of outdoor light installations.
Schools: In 2019 we worked with over 300 local primary school children to produce a stunning light installation made from 100’s of waste plastic bottles. This gave us a taster of what could be possible with more funding and more time… hence the idea for the light trail was born.
If we hit our funding target, we’ll be working with more children to design bigger installations to showcase Tenterden in 2022, telling the story of the town’s wildlife, heritage and sense of community.
Businesses: We want to showcase local businesses both on and off the high street and getting involved in a cultural delivery project is a great way to raise profile. As part of the journey leading up to the light installation event, we’ll be talking about and showcasing our brand partners across all media, for both the installations and across all Christmas market 2022 marketing.
Residents: With a full year lead in, we can work with the local community to include their thoughts and ideas on the themes and builds of the light installations.
2022 also marks the Queens Platinum jubilee, therefore we are looking into some of the installation frames becoming pop up jubilee installations as well for June 2022.
Above all we want to create a light installation experience that is open to all, free to access and is located at the very heart of the town, so both young families and older residents can access it with ease.
Visitors: Tenterden is a true jewel of a destination; key events attract 1000’s of visitors with the last Christmas marketing attracting 14000 -16000 visitors over the 3 days. Visitors travelled in excesses of an hour; coach companies set up tailored event tours, and some of the county’s best food & drink producers and artisans showcased their product as part of over 80 Christmas stalls that lined the high street.
Each year we work harder to position Tenterden as a festive retail destination.
Public/ private sector partnership: By working together through the Kent Spacehive project, (although we are only 2 members of the local community), we have already secured funding from KCC, Tenterden Town Council, local businesses, and Tenterden Chamber of Commerce, with an overwhelming level of support from residents.
By working together towards a common goal, a community can do something new.
BUT, to achieve this, we need to hit our funding target by November 5th
We need your Help…
We are now looking to local business for support. We know that our Christmas market visitors travel from all over Kent and East Sussex, making this crowfunding campaign not only a worthy cause but a great platform to position a business brand
– We are looking for 2 headline sponsors to help us reach our target, but we also need support at a local level from high street businesses.
We are going to be creating 5 large installations in the town; All of our crowd funding partners will be highlighted across the trail.
