Dissatisfaction

The great resignation was a historical period in which 4.3 million people left their jobs in 2020. This has been the highest turnover rate registered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Therefore, it has concerned most businesses that rely on human talent.

Businesses began to recover and reopen to the public in 2021. The vaccine is now available, and people are venturing out more freely. So, why are people still quitting their jobs? Find out more in this article.

Low Salaries

One of the reasons people leave their jobs is low salaries. According to a report by Living Wage Foundation, more than 3.5 million people in the UK are in low-paid jobs. The economy is changing, and the current salaries can’t keep up with the rising prices and cost of living. As a result, salaries have been the primary topic of discussion after the Great Resignation.

Uncertainty

COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021 was definitely the era of uncertainty. Businesses closed, people were laid off, then reopened, and no one wanted to go back to their previous jobs. This uncertainty has caused people to question whether their current career paths will provide them with stability, so they have begun to look for new opportunities.

Feeling Burned Out

Pandemic fatigue is real, and we’ve all experienced it at some point. Some people in healthcare and other industries may have felt exhausted due to the high demand for their services and the scarcity of talent. This exertion has incentivized people to seek out other jobs that provide a better work-life balance.

Reconfiguring Their careers

The need for better opportunities, higher earning potential, and more independence drives a massive shift in the entire workforce. People feel they need to value their lives even more after the pandemic. Therefore, people changing careers even when they have been working for years in a particular occupation doesn’t sound that crazy anymore.

According to a Randstad study, 67 percent of UK workers are ready to move jobs. That’s why it is not unusual now to see people shifting their careers in their 30s or 40s. Job training programs have grown in popularity during the pandemic, owing to the high resignation rate.
